What is the Suzuki Method about?

The Suzuki Method enables students to learn a musical instrument from a young age, in a positive, pleasant and constructive environment. It is also known as the Mother Tongue Method, because in the same way that all children have learnt their mother language through listening, they can learn music too. Shinichi Suzuki observed this in Japan in the 50s and thereafter developed the Talent Education Method.

There are some key points in the Suzuki Method:

♪ Individual and group lessons: the individual lesson is personalized and specific; in the group lesson we play together, repeat concepts, share and meet children of the same age and level.

♪ Positive environment: where the children can feel support and motivation.

♪ Early beginning: from 3 years old, although every age is good to start!

♪ Listening and repetition: at the start we learn by listening with the teacher´s help during the lesson and with the CD at home. When the basic violin technique has been learnt, we start reading sheet music.

♪ Active involvement of the parents: parents have to be present in the lessons and write down what they have to practice with their children at home. Many parents have also learnt to play violin! Would you like to join too?

♪ Playful learning: through games, lessons are very enjoyable and fun.

Lots of children who start with the Suzuki Method become professional musicians. But this is not its main goal. Through music, children develop their personality, learn how to practice and improve a skill, make connections and build self-confidence — qualities that will help them in all aspects of life to be happy and upstanding people.
